# Opening hours

The **Opening hours** block shows in a page the hours entered in the Identity page and marks the current day. This page describes where to enter the hours, how to choose the display, and how to style the line for one day.

## Before you start

The block shows the hours entered once in the **Identity** page of the **Visibility** menu. Google reads the same hours in your site’s data. You change your hours in one place: Google and every page that shows them follow.

1. In the **Visibility** menu, open **Identity**.
2. Choose an organization **Type** that welcomes the public, such as a shop, a restaurant or a practice. Hours are shown only with these types.
3. In **Opening hours**, check each day you are open and set its range. For a midday break or an evening opening, click **Add a time slot**: up to three ranges per day. A range that closes before it opens, such as 7 pm to 1 am, ends after midnight.
4. For a public holiday, time off or a day with different hours, click **Add exceptional hours**. Enter a date or a period, an optional name, then **Closed** or ranges.
5. Save the page.

Special hours replace the usual hours on those dates, for Google and in the block. Once the date has passed, they disappear.

## Add the block

Insert the **Opening hours** block ([Add a block](https://lovelyrender.com/documentation/add-block/)), or type `hours` in the block search. Its usual place is the Contact page or the footer of the site. You can place it on as many pages as you want: all of them show the same hours.

As long as the **Identity** page has no hours, the editor flags it in the block and the block shows nothing on the site.

## Choose the display

The block has no **Settings** tab. Its display is set at the bottom of the **Styles** tab, with the **Show** setting of the **Display** panel.

| Choices | Display | Default value |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **The week** | All seven days, Monday to Sunday, with today marked, then the special hours of the next two months. | Yes |
| **Today only** | One line, “Today: 9 am to 6 pm”, special hours included: a public holiday shows “Closed”. | No |

Above the days, a line says whether the business is open at the moment the visitor looks. It shows, for example, “Open, closes at 6 pm”, “Closed, opens at 2 pm” or “Closed right now”. It takes special hours into account. It is calculated in your business’s time zone: a visitor abroad reads your hours in your local time.

## Style the line for one day

The block contains a single **Opening hours row**, the line for one day, which you style once. Every day is shown with it.

| Block | Role | States |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Opening hours** | The whole set of hours. | **Default**, **Hover**, **Active** |
| **Opening hours row** | One day. Today’s line takes the **Active** state. | **Default**, **Active** |

The line carries the saved style **Opening hours row**, which makes today bold. To mark it differently, select the line, choose the **Active** state in the **Styles** tab and change its color, background or weight ([Color a block](https://lovelyrender.com/documentation/color-block/) and [Format a text](https://lovelyrender.com/documentation/format-text/)).

**Note:** The day and the open state are calculated in the visitor’s browser. Without JavaScript, the page shows the day it was prepared. The line that says whether the business is open does not appear.

## On a phone

On a small screen, **Today only** fits on one line, in a footer or a header. **The week** suits a Contact page.

## Accessibility

A screen reader hears “(today)” after the current day: the day is not flagged by color alone.
