# The Lovely Render vocabulary

This page defines the words you read on Lovely Render screens and in this documentation. The words are sorted by theme and each one means a single thing.

## Your site

### Environment

One of the three copies of your site: Staging, Production and Backup. Your media are shared by all three.

### Staging

Your private working copy, the only one where you edit your site. It shows what the next publication will put online.

### Production

Your public site, on [your domain name](https://lovelyrender.com/documentation/connect-domain/). Nobody edits anything there: it receives a complete copy of the Staging at each publication.

### Backup

The third copy, which receives a copy of the Production before each publication. If the publication fails along the way, the Production returns to this copy. The Backup lets you browse an old version of the site without touching the other two ([Restore a version of the site](https://lovelyrender.com/documentation/restore-site-version/)).

### Preview access

A temporary link that lets a person without an account browse and try your Staging like a visitor, forms included, for up to 30 days. It is created in the Staging **Settings**, **Preview access** section.

### Main language

The language of your site at its root, for example `yoursite.com/contact/`, as long as the **Hide the main language slug in URLs** box stays checked. A site has only one, and the first language added becomes it. The other languages have their address segment, such as `yoursite.com/en/contact/`. [Add a language](https://lovelyrender.com/documentation/add-language/) says how to change it.

### DKIM, SPF

Records of your domain name that authenticate your site’s emails. [Connect your domain name](https://lovelyrender.com/documentation/connect-domain/) says how to set them.

## Publish

### Publish the site

Send the whole Staging to Production, with the **Publish to production** button. The Production is backed up to the Backup just before.

### Publish a content item

Set a content item to the published status, in Staging. It goes online at the next publication of the site.

### Draft

A content item that was never published, or no longer is. It can be seen in the editor and through the preview, never on your live site.

### Changes to publish to Production

The panel of the publish screen that lists, by content type, what the next publication will change online. It also shows the design zones that differ.

### New, Changed, Removed, Deleted

The label of a content item in **Changes going to production** and in the content list. **New**: it will appear online. **Modified**: it will replace the online version. **Withdrawn**: it is online and went back to draft or private. **Deleted**: it is online and moved to the trash.

### Site version

The dated archive of the whole site, created after each successful publication. The five most recent are kept in the **Version history** screen.

### Restore

Reload a version of the site into the Staging or the Production, with **Restore on staging** or **Restore on production**.

### Revision

A past state of a content item, kept at each save with the name of the person who saved. It is used to go back on that content item alone.

### New version

The working copy of an already published content item. You edit it without touching the original, then **Publish the new version** puts it in its place.

## Your content

### Content

Everything written in the editor: a page, a post, an entry, a term, a composition or a template.

### Block

The basic element of a page or a template, for example a heading, an image or a button. You compose your pages by stacking and nesting blocks.

### Content type

A family of content that you create, for example “Projects” or “Job offers”. It has its list in the administration, its fields and, if you want, its public address.

### Entry

A content item of a content type you created, for example a project in “Projects”.

### Category

What classifies your content, for example “Contract type” for job offers. Its values are its terms. It is created with the **Add Category** button. Lovely Render does not use WordPress taxonomies but its own classification system, where each term is a full content item.

### Term

A value of a category, for example “Permanent” in “Contract type”. It is a content item in its own right, with its SEO and its translations. An entry is classified under a term through a reference field.

### Field

A piece of data that an entry carries beside its layout, for example the location of a job offer.

### Reference

The link from one content item to another, set by a reference field. A project can thus point to its client.

### Content template

The layout a new entry of a type starts from. It is copied at creation: changing the template does not change the entries already created.

### Template

The block layout of a kind of page: the page of a content item, a list, the home page, the search or the 404 page. The most specific wins: the one for a given content item takes precedence over the one for its whole type.

### Composition

A set of blocks placed in several content items: editing it edits them all. The header, the footer, the mobile menu and the consent banner are compositions.

### Media

A file uploaded to your site, such as a photo or a video. The same file serves the Staging and the Production.

### Legal document

A privacy policy, terms or rules, written in the **Legal documents** menu. The site keeps every text it has put online.

### Edition

A text that a legal document put online, with its dates. A published correction creates an edition, a save in the editor does not.

### In force

Said of the edition that a legal document displays today on your live site.

## Your design

### Design system

The appearance rules of the whole site: colors, fonts, scales, block styles and animations. They are set in **Appearance** > **Design System**.

### Design catalog

Ready-made design choices: palettes, typography and styling of components such as buttons or cards. A styling changes only the styles of its blocks.

### Registered style

A named styling that you apply to blocks in one click. Editing it updates all the blocks that use it.

### Scale

A list of reusable sizes, spacings or radii. Each value has a step with a stable name, for example “m”. Changing the value of a step updates all the styles that use it.

### Automatic contrast

Lovely Render’s calculation of the most readable text color on each background.

### Webclip

The icon shown when a visitor adds your site to their phone’s home screen. It is set in **Appearance** > **Images**, **Webclip & PWA** card.

## Measure your visits

### AI visit

A reading of the Markdown version of a page, most often by an AI assistant. It is counted apart from views and never added to visitors.

### Passage

A page read by a recognized search engine or AI robot. A passage is never counted as a visit.

### Referrers

The other sites your visitors come from, counted by domain. The domain is known, never the exact page that carries the link.

### Internal links

The links that lead to a page from the content of another page of the site or from a list. Those in the header, the footer and the templates do not count.

### Orphan page

A page that no link of the site leads to. A visitor does not find it while browsing.

### Depth

The minimum number of clicks to reach a page from the home page, counting all links, header and footer included.

### Internal weight

A score from 0 to 10 that measures the place your links give to a page. A link your visitors follow often weighs more.

### Retention

The length of time your data is kept before being erased. Your statistics are kept for several years ([Read your analytics](https://lovelyrender.com/documentation/read-analytics/)). Your form submissions are kept 13 months by default and our team extends this on request.

### Consent banner

The panel where your visitors accept or refuse cookies, category by category.

## Your team

### Member

A person invited to work on your site, with a role.

### Role

A member’s level of access: **Administrator**, **Editor**, **Author**, **Contributor** or **Subscriber**.

### Can publish

The permission that lets an administrator publish and restore the site. Without it, they keep control of the content but do not put the site online.

### AI assistant

An assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT that you authorize to act on a site in your name. It never receives more rights than your role.

### Two-step verification

The second check at login: the code from your authenticator app, after your password. [Log in and protect your account](https://lovelyrender.com/documentation/log-in-protect-account/) explains how to turn it on.

### Trusted device

A device and its browser where the code received by email is no longer asked for 30 days. It becomes one as soon as you validate a code on it.
